Today, Sydney Harbour is home to some of the most spectacular Australia Day celebrations. Once a year, traditional performances mix freely with concerts, fireworks and lots of different events on the water. The whole day is watched by 400,000 people around the harbour and covered by all media.

Observant Sydneysiders might have noticed a cool supersized interactive project we’ve been working on for some time, and have been quietly testing ‘somewhere’ in the Sydney CBD.
It gave us a few technical challenges in the early days with lots of moving parts (mobile, interactive, outdoor digital, etc) – but it’s been working really well. We’ll soon be releasing it nationally and hopefully it creates a really nice fun customer engagement which ties in nicely with the brand.

Its six months since we helped launch the GenerationOne movement in March 2010, and most would agree its off to a great start.
A Crosby Textor survey 48 hours after the launch showed that over a quarter of all Australians had seen or read something about the launch of GenerationOne, and over 10,000 followers signed up in the first week alone and the campaign benefitted from c.$20 of earned media for every dollar spent. By October 2010 the movement had built a supporter base of over 50,000, growing at around 1,000 new supporters every week.

I’m about to make you rich with a just-hatched idea that will change the world.
I was ranting to Julie about the hopelessly inefficient way things operate on an airplane back where I sit, and used food distribution as my example. Two grumpy air stewards wheel a steel trolly down the aisle, dishing out food (“Chicken or Beef”) to everyone. The good one (Chicken) always runs out the seat before your one, and no-one eats the buns. Then you sit with the debris on your tray for an hour until the whole process is reversed – only the stewards are even more grumpy now.

It occurs to me, watching more than 200 countries compete for attention at the World Expo and presenting their national ‘brand’ the way they see it (or want to be seen – I’m looking at you Iran) just how tough a job they have.
Sure, the World Expo is about showcasing great thinking, innovation and the best and brightest from around the world. But it’s also about money. Lots of money!
The day before we visited the Expo, Arnold Schwarzenegger visited the expo (the local press here keep calling him ‘The Governator’) stating he was “here to sell”.

When we started planning the Republic, we wanted the experience of working with Red Bean to be very different. Slick, easy and connected. In itself an example of a memorable brand experience.
To make this possible, we designed every system inside Red Bean Republic as a browser-based online system, with an interface that would work on our computers, our iPads and iPhones. Today, everything we do uses ‘cloud’ computing – from our client planning tools, to estimating, production, invoicing, accounting and all communication.
